The Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship is a scheme by the Research Grants Council to invite brilliant individuals in the world to continue their Ph.D. degrees at prestigious Hong-Kong universities. Research Grants Council has specified the universities for the students intending to avail of this fellowship. This scheme with 300 PhD fellowships enables students to get a chance to study at the university of their own choice out of the list of the Research Grants Council.

Since 2009, when the Research Grants Council launched this fully funded doctoral scholarship scheme, a large number of students have got benefits and participated in research that has changed the world. The Hong Kong fellows have marked their names in fields including but not limited to IT, science, medicine, business, engineering, humanities, economics, etc.

This fully funded fellowship scheme offers students the to pursue their Ph.D. in the following fields:

Program Duration:

The duration of the Hong Kong fellowships is up to 3 years.

Scholarship Benefits:
No prior work experience is required.
No application fee.
The fellows will receive a travel allowance of HK$13,800 (approximately US$1,760).
The fellows will receive an annual stipend of HK$331,200 which is approximately US $42,460 for the fellowship duration.
Provision of additional Support by the university in case the Ph.D. extends from 3 years.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must be new full-time Ph.D. students.
The candidates have to prove that their university education has been conducted in the English language.
Candidates can be from any nationality and background around the globe.
If a candidate's previous education was not in English, he/she has to submit English Proficiency Certificate.
The candidate must choose from the given list of 8 universities by the Research Grants Council.

Application Procedure:

The candidates have to apply separately for the university and this fellowship.
To apply for the fellowship, the candidates have to complete the initial application through the Hong Kong Ph.D. Fellowship Scheme Electronic System.
The candidates have to apply first for the fellowship.
After the successful submission of the initial application, the candidates will receive a reference number.
The candidates have to apply for chosen universities and mention the given reference number in the university application form.
The candidate should select up to two universities and two programs depending on his/he priority.
In case the candidates forget to mention the reference number, their applications will not be considered for this fellowship. The application will instead, be considered on a regular basis.
Every university has its own submission deadline. Hence, to receive the reference number before the deadline, please fill out the initial application as soon as possible.
